About Beyond the 5K

Some measure fitness and health by weight or body shape. Many people direct their efforts towards those goals. I think there is a better way, by focusing on performance goals--fitness challenges.

The fitness challenges most people attempt are running a 5k, marathon, or triathalon. I think there are cooler, better fitness challenges than slowly running down a track. Many are drawn from military standards or sporting events. Others are drawn from fitness programs. Some, I just made up.

So check out the challenges, pick one to tackle, tell us how you're doing, and change your life.

The posting schedule here is 2 x's a week. If you email me, I'll write you back within a day.

About Me

My name is Joe Radosevich

I realized at 24 that being 5'9 and 200 lbs wasn't what I wanted anymore. I could do a few push-ups, could only do 1 pull-up, and I wanted a change. I picked some military standards as my goal and changed my eating and exercise to hit them. When I noticed my perfomance change, I also noticed my clothes didn't fit right anymore, my belt size shrink, and that I felt better. Only after 6 months or so did I weigh myself and realize that I was 20 lbs lighter. A year later I weighed again, and noticed that I was 35 lbs lighter than when I started. Now (20 months later), I'm over 40 lbs lighter.

I decided that I wanted to write the fitness blog that I wanted to read-the one I wish I could have read when I started. I write this to equip others with the information and strategies they need to tackle some awesome fitness challenges and to motivate them to change their health and fitness by targeting fitness challenges rather than body goals. In a few months, I'll also publish a short fitness book explaining what I learned in the last two years.

I have a B.A. from Bryan College and am an ACE Certified Personal Trainer.

I'm married with one daughter and a new baby on the way.
