*Mitch Rapp posts continue to be some of my most popular posts. So I'm going to keep giving them.
I've written Mitch Rapp challenge posts before and talked about other assassin/special forces characters before. But how would Rapp train? What principles would he follow? This goes for Bourne, Bond, Harvath, and others.
He Wouldn't
- Rapp wouldn't need extra bulk. It would slow him down and make him stand out in a crowd. So we would be strong, but not like a Men's Health model.
- Rapp wouldn't need to survive in the wilderness, so he wouldn't train for that. Vince Flynn even talked about that in American Assassin.
- Rapp wouldn't be a triathlete--unless he followed Crossfit Endurance (more on that later). Because long endurance training depletes muscle stores and leaves the top athletes look emaciated and unable to build and keep muscle. Rapp was strong and needed strength to fight and climb and lift, endurance training would have left him only able to run long.
He Would
- Rapp would need adaptable training. Rapp traveled all over the world, sometimes for months at a time, so he would need a style of training that he could do anywhere. But when he is at home, he would want workouts that included barbell, kettlebell, and rowing movements.
- Rapp would need to be durable. He dealt with a lot of injures and would need his training to help him withstand a lot of abuse and keep going.
- Rapp would need a high weight-to-strength ration, so his training would require a lot of bodyweight and kettlebell movements.
Workout Plans for People Who Want to Train Like Mitch Rapp
I like writing training programs, but there are great ones already written for people like Rapp or who want to train like Rapp. Examples:
Search for information on Jason Statham's training plans. Rapp, Bourne, and others would train like him.
*I'm working on a short ebook right now with a complete training plan for people who want to train like assassins. It includes two pieces of equipment, a training plan, nutrition guide, and exercise descriptions. It's short and specialized, so I can sell it for $1. Look for that later this month in the store link above.
