1 Month of Real-World Training: Jason Bourne-Style

If you've read this blog for very long, you know that much of my training goals have to do with real-world application and my inspiration often comes from assassins and soldiers in books and movies. Lately, I've been thinking of what training for and with real-world skills and movements looks like. What would training using movements from the Bourne books and movies include? What would one month of training look like?

Skills/Movements:
  • Climb
  • Walk
  • Sprint
  • Fight
  • Push
  • Swim
  • Jump
  • Carry
Training Plan

  1. Walk Everyday (Go out and walk somewhere. Sometimes, grab a sandbag or 20-80 lbs weight and carry it the whole way.)
  2. Free-run Once a Week (Go to a park, pick a landmark and sprint to it. Walk to another point, pick a landmark, and sprint again. Repeat for 15-20 minutes.)
  3. Find an abandoned playground and play on it for 20 minutes at least twice a week (climb the monkey bars, crawl under it, climb over the highest point, etc. You could also do this in the woods with boulders and trees.)
At the end of the month, see how you feel in your body and in your mind.

Did you try this for 1 month? How did it work for you?
